Innovation, entrepreneurship and socio‑environmental responsibility are the hallmarks of the Telles Group. For more than 170 years and five generations, our family has sustained Brazil’s oldest continuously operating company.
Origins and Early Growth
In 1843, Portuguese immigrant Dario Telles de Menezes arrived in Maranguape with a ceramic still. By 1846, he was producing sugar‑cane spirit on his estate—laying the foundation for the Group’s future.
Modernization and Innovation
In 1895, the second generation modernized the distillation process and passed leadership from father to eldest son. From 1924, Paulo Campos Telles introduced landmark innovations—bottling in liter formats, dosing droppers, aging in balsam barrels—and in 1968 orchestrated Brazil’s first export of sugar‑cane spirit to Germany.
Expansion and Diversification
Under fourth‑generation leader Everardo Telles, beginning in the 1970s, the Group embarked on its greatest period of expansion. Headquarters moved to Fortaleza’s Messejana district, and operations diversified into seven sectors: mineral water, ethanol, livestock, agriculture, cardboard packaging, entertainment and more. Cutting‑edge technology and uncompromising quality drive our success across all businesses.
A New Era of R&D
In August 2012, Everardo Telles handed over the premium‑beverages arm to a global leader, ushering in a new chapter. Since then, we’ve launched R&D initiatives in agricultural pesticides and probiotics—continuing our tradition of innovation.
